IBD Friendly
Locations
Here you will find locations that we come across that offer IBD friendly menu options. We are going
to talk with restaurants nationally in hopes that they will accommodate those living with IBD and
other digestive ailments, to have a "bland option" when ordering off of a menu. We believe this will
prevent frustration and embarrassment for all involved! If you know of any accommodating
locations, please email us! Thank you!
DISNEYLAND PARKS AND RESORTS
We have the best insider info in regards to going to Disneyland, The Disneyland Hotel and The
Grand Californian Hotel. Disney is known to accommodate special dietary restrictions but after our
conversation with Chef Chris, we are amazed at the willingness to learn and help that was offered.
We left a message for Chef Chris that was immediately returned the next morning. Our message
stated that we have Crohn’s and are inquiring as to the options available to us. When Chef Chris
called us back he stated that he did not know what our disease encompassed so he had done
some research on the internet. He stated that he was thoroughly confused and sorry that we had
such a terrible disease. We were appreciative of the effort to go as far as to search about it.
Chef Chris informed us that our best option is to eat at the restaurants as most of the food is not
pre-made and can be altered to our diet. The following are tips that he gave us that we would like
to share:
- When you go in to any restaurant in the park or resorts, ask the busser or waiter to get the
Manager, Lead or Chef. Upon meeting one of those three, let them know that you have CD
or UC and that you need special options. They bring out the “ingredient book” for the menu
and it will show which foods contain what and which foods can be changed. He said that
everyone will look busy but do not let that make you feel uncomfortable as that is their
normal day and you are not imposing on them.
- Certain restaurant locations boast special things….. It is in your best interest to make
reservations and visit the restaurant prior to, during non rush times, to make selections and
they will have the food ready for you. Restaurants that take special note:
- The Plaza Inn is one of the best restaurants to ask for changes as they are connected
to the largest employee cafeteria. If you need a baked potato and it isn’t on the menu,
they will usually be able to get one behind the scenes. We were told their fried
chicken comes unbattered and they would love to broil it for us with no spices.
- The Blue Bayou has a new Chef, Moses, which is phenomenal and will go above and
beyond to help.
- The Carnation Restaurant is another great option
- Ariel’s Grotto is one of the only locations in California Adventure that offers dietary
selections.
- The Story Teller’s Café in the Grand Californian Hotel will accommodate anything that
is not pre-made.
- Goofy’s Kitchen has Chef Christopher, not to be confused with Chef Chris, that will
make you special food even though the restaurant is a buffet.
Basically, Disneyland and its resorts rock for IBDers and their families. If you are staying at the
resorts, you can call and have them arrange food for you as well for room service. We love that
Disney offers such an accommodating atmosphere and that we have options!!! Thank you Chef
Chris for your outstanding customer service and your willingness to help! Your actions are more
appreciated than you will ever know!
SEA WORLD ADVENTURE PARKS
Sea World Adventure Parks offers special dietary restrictions dining at its restaurants and snack
locations throughout the park. They will work with special requests and provide ingredients. Also,
they will have their Executive Chef Jerry Dollar arrange a special meal at one of their restaurants.
How cool is that? Remember, it is always wise to contact them way ahead of time to make sure that
they know how to help you.
Here is a link to the website that explains their willingness to go above and beyond for those with
special menu needs. Thank you Sea World!!!
